Visual and Performing Arts

The Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program at Hawkswood School recognizes that the arts enable personal, social, economic, intellectual and human growth by fostering creativity and providing instruction for expression beyond the limits of language (New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards).

Our program and lessons reflect the intent and spirit of the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS). Additionally, our VAPA program offers cross- curricular learning experiences that incorporate various art, music and multi-media technologies. Moreover, within our entire academic program, classroom teachers are also integrating and infusing the arts with equity throughout their lessons.

Whether it is a single or collaborative lesson involving music, theatre, visual art or dance, all students are encouraged to participate and utilize their unique talents and abilities. Students are able to continue their artistic development in their area of interest, while being instructed in each of the four arts disciplines. While actively engaged in these processes, students not only learn about the arts, they learn through and within the arts.

Hawkswood School offers separate instruction in Music and Art while also offering a Music and Art collaborative class.
